Football: Chelsea FC Record Loss!
By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw
It has been reported that Chelsea FC have incurred the biggest pre-tax loss in English Premier League (EPL) history.
The £262 million (around €300.3 million) loss for 2024-25 surpasses the £197.5 million (around €226.3 million) loss of Manchester City FC in 2011.
This financial result comes despite the fact that Chelsea recorded their second highest income in their history of £490.9 million (around €562.8 million).
In 2024-25, Chelsea FC won the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup and finished fourth in the EPL.
The Club insist that they remain in compliance with the relevant financial regulations, such as the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), under which losses of £105 million (around €120.3 million) are permitted over a period of three years.
Chelsea have spent more than £1 billion (around €1.146 billion) on players since BlueCo, a British-based investment holding company, took over the Club in 2022.
At the beginning of the current season, the Club was fined by UEFA £26.7 million (around €30.6 million) for breaching squad‑cost ratio rules.
UEFA is also monitoring them over a period of three years.
