MILANO CORTINA 2026 CURLING
THE CAS AD HOC DIVISION REGISTERS TWO APPLICATIONS AGAINST ITALIAN ICE SPORTS FEDERATION AND THE WORLD CURLING FEDERATION
Milan, 5 February 2026 – The CAS Ad hoc Division has registered two applications by Curling athlete Ms Angela Romei (Italy) against the Italian Ice Sports Federation (Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio – FIGS) and against the World Curling Federation (WCF). The applications concern the selection of athletes for the Italian Women’s Curling Team for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 (OWG 2026).
FIGS published the Women’s Curling team selections for the OWG 2026 on 20 January 2026, from which the athlete was excluded.
Filed on 4 February 2026, the athlete challenges a decision by the FIGS on 2 February 2026, which explains the team selection process and states that the team selection will not be revised. She also challenges a decision by WCF on 2 February 2026 which informed her, upon a request to investigate the matter, that the team selection process is a matter for the FIGS. Ms Romei argues that the team selection was a conflict of interest, favouring a FIGS Technical Director’s daughter over a more experienced and qualified athlete.
In her first application against the FIGS, Ms Romei requests that CAS sets aside the FIGS decision and that the disputed team member is replaced by herself. In her second application against the WCF, Ms Romei requests that CAS sets aside the WCF decision and order that the disputed team member is replaced by herself.
A hearing will be scheduled for this procedure, upon agreement with the Parties. This is an unofficial summary for media use.
