Tennis: 2025 Wimbledon Prize Money

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

It has been announced that the prize money for The Wimbledon Championships this year, to be held from 30 June to 13 July, will be a record sum of £53.5 million (around €62.8 million), an increase of 7% on last year’s prize money, with the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Singles Champions each receiving the sum of £3 million (around €3.5 million).

In 2015, the Ladies’ and Gentlemen’s Single Champions received the sum of £1,880,000 (around €2.2 million) each.

The Funds generated by The Wimbledon Championships, less tax, are used by the Lawn Tennis Association to develop tennis in Great Britain.

However, the prize money, irrespective of the entertainment value generated by the Championships, seems rather excessive, even though the Championships are considered to be the best of their kind in the world!
