THE COURT OF ARBITRATION FOR SPORT (CAS) REGISTERS AN APPEAL BY 10 MEXICAN FOOTBALL CLUBS TO RESUME PROMOTION AND RELEGATION IN LIGA MX
Lausanne, 21 May 2025 - The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered an appeal by 10 second division Mexican football clubs (‘the Clubs’) against the Mexican Football Federation (FMF), filed on 19 May 2025.
The appeal seeks to reinstate promotion and relegation in the Mexican first division league, Liga MX, which was suspended for 6 seasons in 2019/2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Clubs involved in the appeal are:
1. CF Atlante
2. Club Atlético La Paz
3. Club Atlético Morelia
4. Cancún FC
5. Cimarrones de Sonora FC
6. Alebrijes de Oaxaca FC
7. CD Mineros de Zacatecas
8. Venados FC
9. Leones Negros de la UdeG
10. Jaiba Brava
The Parties are currently exchanging written submissions in accordance with the arbitration rules governing CAS appeals procedures. Following this process and with the agreement of the Parties, a CAS hearing will be scheduled.
