CAS & FOOTBALL ANNUAL REPORT 2024 PUBLISHED

FIFA, the World Governing Body of Association Football, the world’s favourite sport, has published the third edition of the CAS & Football Annual Report 2024.

This comprehensive Report details the activities of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in football-related matters worldwide and, specifically, the appeals filed against FIFA decisions during the review period.

In 2024, football-related cases accounted for the vast majority of all CAS cases, namely a notable 72%! In fact, CAS maintains a separate List of Arbitrators who are specialised in football matters.

Also, worthy of note, CAS dealt with the first-ever football-related cases at the Ad Hoc Division of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, in which three appeals were filed against FIFA.

The CAS & Football Annual Report 2024 also includes a detailed overview of the most significant case law from both CAS and the Swiss Federal Tribunal, the final Court of Appeal in CAS cases.

Under Article 49 of the FIFA Statutes, CAS is the exclusive body to review and decide appeals against final decisions made by the various FIFA bodies.

This Article ensures that an independent arbitration tribunal can deal with football-related disputes and review FIFA decisions when challenged by the various stakeholders in football, including member associations, confederations, players, clubs, officials, coaches and agents.

The CAS & Football Annual Report 2024, which makes interesting reading, can be downloaded from legal.fifa.com.
