The US-based Formula 1Team, Haas, has appointed the first female race engineer in the sport.
Laura Muller joined the Haas team in 2022 and will work alongside newly appointed Esteban Ocon.
The race engineer plays a key role working most closely with drivers on the performance, set-up and running of their cars.
Haas team principal, Ayao Komatsu, stated that diversity in Formula 1 was on the increase and that Muller had not been chosen because she is a woman, because “what matters is work, how you fit into the team, how you can maximise the performance ….”
The new head of strategy at Haas will also be a woman, Carine Cridelich, from France, who will take up her appointment on 1 March 2025. She has been recruited from the Red Bull Racing team.
It is always gratifying to see women making it in a predominantly male sport such as Formula 1!
