OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 ATHLETICS / WEIGHTLIFTING
THE CAS AD HOC DIVISION REGISTERS NEW APPLICATIONS FILED BY ADRIEN COULIBALY (FRA), DAVID SÁNCHEZ LÓPEZ (ESP) AND DANY BRAND (SUI)
Paris, 3 August 2024 - The Ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered the following new procedures:
TAS OG 24/11 Adrien Coulibaly v. Comité National Olympique et Sportif Français (CNOSF)
An application has been filed by French 400m runner Adrien Coulibaly (the Applicant) against the decision taken by the French National and Olympic Sports Committee (CNOSF) to not register him for the 4x400m relay event at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 (the Challenged Decision).
The Applicant seeks a decision from the CAS Ad hoc Division annulling the Challenged Decision and authorising the inclusion of an additional athlete on the list for the 4x400m relay event. The matter has been referred to Ms Carine Dupeyron (FRA), sitting as a Sole Arbitrator, who will hold a hearing with the parties this afternoon. The Sole Arbitrator’s decision is expected to be issued on 4 August 2024.
CAS OG 24/12 David Sánchez López v. Turkish Weightlifting Federation
Spanish weightlifter David Sánchez López (the Applicant) has filed an application contesting the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Independent Member Federation Sanctioning Panel (IMFSP) decision dated 22 July 2024 in which a financial sanction was imposed on the Turkish Weightlifting Federation (TWF) after three of its athletes were found guilty of doping offences. The Applicant considers such decision to be contrary to the IWF Anti-Doping Rules and that the Turkish Federation and all of its athletes should have been sanctioned and banned from participating in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 (the Games), which would imply the Applicant’s own qualification, attendance and participation in the Games.
The Panel of arbitrators will be constituted shortly and will issue procedural directions with respect to the case.
