Paris Olympics: British diver appears on saucy site!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

To qualify and compete in the Olympic Games, athletes need to make all kinds of personal sacrifices, including dedicated training over the years, as well as to do other things to fund their sporting careers.

The British diver, Jack Laugher, is a case in point. He has had to post pictures of himself on the subscription site ‘OnlyFans’ in order to make ends meet and earn some extra cash.

In Paris, he is competing in his fourth Olympics, having won gold, silver and bronze medals in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro and 2021 Tokyo Games.

Laugher’s father, whose suggestion it was for him to go on the site, remarked that it has something of a reputation for having “saucy content”.

On the site, Laugher wears a pair of swimming trunks, which his father describes as his “business wear” and adds that:

It’s nothing that you couldn’t show your grandma.”

Laugher himself remarked that he was happy to “cash in” and “comfortable” to appear on the site despite its “negative” perceptions.

It certainly takes all sorts of things to make an Olympic world!
