OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 FOOTBALL: THE APPEAL FILED BY THE CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE AND CANADA SOCCER IS DISMISSED

THE APPEAL FILED BY THE CANADIAN OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
AND CANADA SOCCER IS DISMISSED

Paris, 31 July 2024 - The CAS Ad hoc Division for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has issued its final decision in the following matter:

CAS OG 24/09 Canadian Olympic Committee & Canada Soccer v. Federation Internationale de Football Association & New Zealand Football & New Zealand Olympic Committee Inc. & Fédération Française de Football & Comité National Olympique et Sportif Français & Federación Colombiana de Fútbol & Comité Olímpico Colombiano.

The application filed by the Canadian Olympic Committee and Canada Soccer (the Applicants) in relation to the six-point deduction imposed on the Canadian women’s soccer team for the football tournament at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 has been dismissed.

The Applicants sought a decision from the CAS Ad hoc Division either cancelling or reducing the points deduction imposed by the FIFA Appeal Committee in its decision of 27 July 2024 after it established that breaches of the FIFA regulations applicable to the Olympic football tournament concerning the prohibition on flying drones over training sites had occurred.

The Panel of arbitrators appointed to decide the matter President of the Panel: Mr Roberto Moreno (PAR), President, Prof. Philippe Sands KC (GBR/FRA/MRI), and Ms Laila El Shentenawi, (EGY) held a hearing with the parties on 30 July 2024. Due to the urgency of the matter, only the operative part of the award was notified; the full award with grounds will be published at a later date.
