OLYMPIC GAMES PARIS 2024 AQUATICS – COOK ISLANDS REQUEST TO ALLOCATE A “UNIVERSALITY PLACE”
Paris, 21 July 2024 - The Ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has registered its second arbitration procedure linked to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
The Cook Islands Aquatics Federation (CIAF) and the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC) (the Applicants) filed an application against World Aquatics (WA) in relation to the decision taken by the WA Bureau on 19 July 2024 to not allocate a Universality Place for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games to the Cook Islands swimmer, Wesley Tikiairki Roberts (the Challenged Decision).
The Applicants seek a decision from the CAS Ad hoc Division setting aside the Challenged Decision and ordering that WA allocate a Universality Place to Wesley Tikiairki Roberts for the swimming competition at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The matter will be decided by Ms Kristen Thorsness OLY (USA) sitting as a Sole Arbitrator. A hearing is scheduled in the morning of 23 July 2024.
