Football: Vinicius Jr to lead FIFA Anti-Racism Committee

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has announced the formation of a new special Anti-Racism Committee, which will be headed by Vinicius Jr, of Real Madrid.

The Committee will be formed of players, tasked with suggesting stricter penalties for discriminatory behaviour in football, which will be implemented by all football authorities around the world.

It will be recalled that the Brazil International was racially abused by fans when Madrid played Valencia last month. This was the tenth such incident involving the 22-year-old player!

Infantino stated:

There will be no more football with racism in it. The games should be stopped immediately when it happens.”

And added:

Enough is enough.”

Although this move is to be welcomed, it must be said that it comes not before time!
