Snooker: World Championship Disruption!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

Play was disrupted on 17 April at the start of the 2023 Snooker World Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, UK, after a protester climbed onto one of the tables and covered it in orange powder.

Another protester tried to glue herself to another table where play was in progress.

The male and female protesters wore T-shirts in support of climate change activists ‘Just Stop Oil’ who subsequently claimed responsibility online for the disruption of the event.

They were arrested by the police on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

‘Just Stop Oil’ have disrupted other sporting events, including English Premier League football matches.
