Record Sale of Michael Jordan’s Trainers!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

A pair of signed trainers of the former professional basketball ‘star’, Michael Jordan, has been sold at auction by Sotheby’s for US$2.2 million.

This is a record for a pair of shoes and the sale confirms that Jordan is the most valuable sports person as far as sportswear memorabilia is concerned.

The previous auction record for a pair of Jordan’s shoes, namely, his Nike Air Ships, was US$1.47 million and set in 2021.

Also, a jersey worn by Jordan at the 1998 NBA Finals was sold for US$10.1 million in 2022.

The head of Sotheby’s streetwear and modern collectables, Brahm Wachter, commented on the sale as follows:

Today’s record-breaking result further proves that the demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to outperform and transcend all expectations.”

Jordan is regarded as the greatest basketball player of all time!
