By all accounts, the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which were hosted by Glasgow, Scotland, and closed on 2 August 2026, after 11 days of competition and 645 medals were awarded, the Games were a great success.
It will be recalled that Glasgow stepped in, at short notice, to host a slimmed down version of the Games after the State of Victoria, Australia, pulled out of them in 2023 on cost grounds.
The Indian city of Ahmedabad is scheduled to be the next host of the Games in 2030, when they will celebrate their centenary.
The question is being asked whether Ahmedabad will, in fact, host the Games.
In answer to this question, Raghu Iyer, the Chief Executive of the Indian Olympic Association, stated:
"I don't think one can give any guarantees."
So, uncertainty still surrounds the future of the Games.
