Tonda Eckert, the Head Coach of Southampton FC, has been charged with misconduct by the English Football Association (FA) in connection with the so-called ‘Spygate’ affair.
The club was expelled from the Championship play-off final on 23 May 2026 after admitting that they spied on Middlesborough FC during the campaign (see the previous Post on this affair on the SLT website).
An independent disciplinary commission had ruled, at the time, that the spying was authorised by Eckert.
Following an investigation by the FA, he has now been charged by the FA with three breaches of FA rule E3.1, which provides that football participants must act in the best interests of the game and not behave improperly or bring the game into disrepute.
Southampton FC has stated that:
"Tonda and the club will continue to co-operate fully and openly with the FA.”
It will be interesting to see the outcome of this latest disciplinary action by the FA in this sad affair.
