It has been reported that, following an alleged nazi salute by a supporter before the Champions League match, on 25 February 2026, between Real Madrid and Benfica, the Spanish club have launched an investigation into the incident.
It appears that the fan made the fascist gesture as the television cameras panned around the Bernabéu stadium.
The fan was identified by security staff some moments later and ejected from the stadium.
The Spanish club stated that:
"Real Madrid condemns this type of gesture and expression that incites violence and hatred in sports and society."
The incident follows the alleged racist abuse on the Real Madrid player, Vinicius Jr, on 17 February 2026 (see the Post on this website of 18 February 2026).
