The French authorities have urged people to return Olympic-branded children’s water bottles to the places from which they bought them, stating that they contain excessive levels of a chemical, Bisphenol A.

This chemical, which is widely used in the manufacture of food containers, is reputedly linked to a wide range of health issues, including breast cancer and infertility, and is the subject of ongoing assessments concerning its safety for consumers.

The reusable bottles have been on sale from August 2023 to June 2024 and Bisphenol A has been banned in France since 2015.

The bottles are stated to have levels of the chemical which are not in line with French regulations on products designed for contact with foods.

The Paris Olympics take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024.
